A memorial folder, prayer card and bookmark with a drawing of Solomon's seal, laid out with a magnolia leaf, olive sprigs, a sealed envelope and a brass seal

Memorial stationery for independent funeral homes

A set of memorial stationery your families will keep, offered as your home’s own.

Folders, programs, prayer cards, signs and thank-you cards, drawn by hand from the plants of your region and set like a fine press book. You offer it to families as your signature collection. Your staff fill in each piece in a few minutes.

The offer

One payment. A collection that is yours to offer every family.

What your home receives

  • Three looks, Herbarium, Colophon and Mourning Rule, so each family can choose.
  • Every piece a service needs: memorial folder, eight-page program, prayer card, bookmark, welcome sign, thank-you card, register book pages and a set for screens.
  • Five colorways, each one ink on its own paper tone: fern green, iron gall, ink blue, oxblood and lamp black. Families choose; your home can also fix one as its house color.
  • Six plants to choose from, native to your region and drawn by hand. Each family picks the one that means something to them, and it carries through every piece.
  • The family’s photograph, prepared for print. Staff drop in any photo, even one from a phone. It is cropped to the frame and printed toned to the ink, in black and white, or in full color.
  • Files your staff can fill in with free Adobe Acrobat Reader, and print on your own printer or at any print shop.
  • Your home credited once, small, on the back of each piece.

What it earns your home

Homes that offer a matched, designed set charge families $150 to $250 for it. One family covers the cost of the collection. After that, it is part of your arrangement offering for every service.

Three looks

Herbarium, Colophon and Mourning Rule.

Most memorial print relies on doves, sunsets and gold script. These take their cue from herbaria, private press books and nineteenth-century mourning stationery instead. Each prints in one ink on uncoated paper.

A Herbarium memorial folder with a botanical drawing on a travertine side table
Herbarium. The plant as a specimen plate, with its label, then the name.
A Colophon memorial folder with prayer cards and an envelope on a walnut console
Colophon. Set like the title page of a private press book, with the plant as its mark.
A Mourning Rule memorial folder on a linen window seat beside a cup of tea
Mourning Rule. One hairline border and the plant, after Victorian mourning paper.

The photograph

Their photograph, set like a plate in a book.

Families bring the picture they love most: an old print, a scan, a photo on a phone. Your staff drop it in once, and it takes its place on every piece in the set.

  1. The family chooses a photograph. Any picture works. Staff can scan a print at the front desk.
  2. Staff drop it in. It is cropped to the frame and sized for the folder, the prayer card and the sign at once.
  3. The family chooses how it prints. Toned to the ink, in black and white, or in full color.
A Herbarium folder with a botanical drawing on the cover and the portrait set inside above the obituary
Herbarium. The drawing keeps the cover. The photograph goes inside, above their story.
A Colophon cover opening with a large portrait above the name in spaced capitals
Colophon. The photograph opens the cover, with the plant set beneath the name.
A Mourning Rule cover with an oval portrait inside a hairline border
Mourning Rule. An oval portrait inside the hairline border, the plant below.
The same prayer card with the photograph toned to the ink, in black and white, and in full color

Every piece

One set, from the program to the sign.

The plant

Each family chooses its plant.

Your region’s set has six drawings. A family might choose the flower from a garden she kept, or the fern from the woods he walked. The same drawing then appears on the folder, the cards and the sign.

Colorways

One ink, one paper, five ways.

Every collection comes in five colorways. Each prints in a single ink on its own paper tone, so it reads as made rather than designed on a screen.

Drawn for your region

A plant from the place they are laid to rest.

Each region has its own set of drawings, made by hand from botanical plates. The label under each one names the plant and where it grows, so a family in the Hudson Valley sees a plant from the Hudson Valley.

The drawings are made for Fernhouse alone and are not sold anywhere else.

After the service

The thank-you card belongs to the same set.

Families leave with a folder, a prayer card and a stack of thank-you cards that all match, which is what makes it feel considered.
